On 17\u201321 November 2025, Prof. Dragan Bagi\u0107 from the Faculty of Sociology at the University of Zagreb visited the Institute of Sociology. The visit took place as part of the CEEPUS Border and Regional Studies Network https:\/\/inopia.uni.opole.pl\/border-and-regional-studies-network\/<\/a> and was coordinated by Prof. El\u017cbieta Opi\u0142owska and Amirhosein Hayati.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prof. Dragan Bagi\u0107, Full Professor at the Department of Sociology, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Zagreb, visited the Institute of Sociology at the University of Wroc\u0142aw this week. Prof. Bagi\u0107 is a distinguished scholar whose work spans political sociology, migration studies, industrial relations, and research methodology. He is a laureate of the Croatian State Award for Science and currently serves as the National Coordinator of the European Social Survey for Croatia (ESS-ERIC). Alongside his extensive scientific and teaching activities, he has contributed significantly to the development of the academic system in Croatia through his service on key national councils and university bodies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During his visit, Prof. Bagi\u0107 delivered lectures on the politicization of migration in contemporary Europe. He examined how migration has become one of the most influential political topics of the past decade, shaping public discourse, electoral dynamics, and the growth of populist and radical right-wing movements. Focusing in particular on Croatia\u2019s ongoing shift from an emigration country to an immigration country, he outlined the changing patterns of migration politicization and explained why certain expected forms of political mobilization have not materialized despite their apparent potential. His talk combined conceptual analysis with concrete case studies of politicization campaigns and moments when such campaigns were notably absent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following the lectures, an engaging discussion took place, including a Q&A session in which students and staff posed questions about comparative migration processes, political narratives, and methodological approaches. The exchange offered an excellent opportunity for deeper reflection and dialogue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prof. Bagi\u0107\u2019s visit contributed to a richer understanding of migration dynamics in Central and Southeastern Europe and further strengthened the academic cooperation between the University of Zagreb and the University of Wroc\u0142aw. “<\/p>\n\n\n\n
