B\u0142aszczyk)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>History of the department<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The Department&nbsp;of Urban and Rural Sociology was established in the same year as the Institute of Sociology. Its first Head was Associate Professor W\u0142adys\u0142aw Misiak. Its second Head was Stanis\u0142aw Witold K\u0142opot, Associate Professor. Since November 2018 the position is held by Mateusz B\u0142aszczyk, Associate Professor. Since the very beginning the researchers in the unit have carried out numerous research projects and have published papers on development of urban and rural communities and contemporary changes observed in socio-spatial structures in city and countryside.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Main research topics<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Economy of cities in late modernity and postmodernity<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>History of social thought<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Housing estates, urban renewal and gentrification process<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Great city and its social problems<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Suburban development in post socialist context of great, medium-sized and small towns<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Development in rural areas<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Academic and scientific events<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Researchers at the Department&nbsp;of Urban and Rural Sociology have organized conferences and seminars in cooperation with other Departments at University of Wroc\u0142aw, Technical University, ECOVAST (The European Council For the Village and Small Town) and Polish Sociological Association. Researchers take an active part in evaluating urban social problems in cooperation with City Council in the project \u201cWroclaw Diagnosis of Social Problems\u201d and also with city councils in the Lower Silesia region. One result of this cooperation was a conference \u201cCity and Power\u201d organized in June 2015.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Recently the academics from the Unit were actively engaged in the process of evaluation of the European Capital of Culture Wroclaw 2016, they have also created the strategic documents covering the areas of urban culture and solving social problems in the city which will be included into the main strategic document Wroclaw 2030.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These forms of collaboration will be summed up during a scientific conference \u201cCity and Culture\u201d which&nbsp;took place in September 2017.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Academic collaboration<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The Department&nbsp;cooperates with other research agencies focused on urban and rural related issues, especially with scholars from \u0141\u00f3d\u017a, Katowice, Krak\u00f3w and with Sections of Urban and Rural Sociology of Polish Sociological Association.
