The Migration – Culture – City Lab is a research unit established in October 2024 at the Institute of Sociology, University of Wrocław, to conduct advanced, interdisciplinary and integrated studies on migration processes, socio-cultural changes and urban policies. The Lab brings together specialists in urban studies, migration research and cultural studies who have previously conducted research projects in each of these areas separately and recognize the need for their integration.
The Lab focuses on combining and coordinating the following activities:
– Research activities, including implementation of research projects of various scales at local, central and international levels, funded from domestic and foreign sources; organization of national and international seminars and conferences; intensifying international cooperation with units conducting research on analogous socio-cultural processes.
– Theoretical and methodological development in conducting studies and searching for methodologies that enable research advancement in the field defined by the overlap of three sociological subdisciplines: urban sociology, migration sociology and cultural sociology, as well as seeking methodological solutions for conducting innovative and advanced empirical research on urban, migration and cultural processes.
– Developing interdisciplinary approaches by inviting geographers, economists, lawyers, political scientists, and specialists in security and international relations to collaborate with the Lab – Developing cooperation with public and local government units through research and analytical work within long-term agreements, increasing the dissemination of research results and deepening impact on the socio-economic environment.
