About the Institute
The Institute of Sociology of the University of Wrocław was established in 1988. It is the oldest research and teaching institution in Wrocław that offers sociological studies, with highly qualified staff. Currently, the Institute of Sociology employs 51 researchers, including 21 researchers with the habilitation degree. The Institute cooperates with many domestic and foreign institutions.
The Institute offers the following degree courses of full-time studies: Sociology (1st and 2nd cycle), Sociology of Dispositional Groups (1st and 2nd cycle), Social Work (1st and 2nd cycle), and Economic Sociology (1st and 2nd cycle). In the part-time study system, the following degree courses are available: Sociology (1st and 2nd cycle), Social Work (1st cycle), Sociology of Dispositional Groups (1st and 2nd cycle), and Economic Sociology (1st cycle). Since the academic year 2012/2013, the Institute of Sociology has also been offering a specialised study programme in English at full-time second-cycle studies – Intercultural Mediation. Classes at full-time and part-time studies are conducted by research and teaching staff of the Institute of Sociology, as well as by practitioners from outside the University of Wrocław.
The staff of the Institute of Sociology take part in national and international research projects in the fields of sociology of education, sociology of disposational groups, sociology of science, knowledge and culture, sociology of civilisation, urban and rural sociology, general sociology, economic sociology, sociology of gender and family, sociology of borderland, applied sociology and sociology of social work, sociology of consumer behaviour, and sociology of the public sphere.
